GROTTE DI FRASASSI

The Frasassi Caves

In the Gola Rossa Regional Park

GROTTE DI FRASASSI

The Frasassi Caves, located in the heart of the Gola della Rossa and Frasassi Regional Natural Park, are a true hidden treasure of the Marche region. This underground cave complex, discovered in 1971, is one of the largest and most spectacular in Europe, with over 30 km of tunnels, rooms, and calcareous concretions.

The visit to the Frasassi Caves is an unmatched experience that will take you into an underground world made of stalactites, stalagmites, crystalline lakes and bizarrely shaped rock formations. The most famous and majestic cave is the Abisso Ancona, a cave 240 meters high, 180 meters wide and 200 meters long, so large that it can contain the Milan Cathedral inside.

During the guided tour, which lasts approximately 75 minutes, you’ll pass through rooms of impressive dimensions, such as the Sala delle Candeline, with its delicate stalactites that descend from the ceiling, or the Sala dei Giganti, with its enormous rock columns. You’ll also admire the delicate calcareous concretions, such as the Orecchie D’Elefante or Niagara, a spectacular stone waterfall.
